"Hey, do you speak Creeper?"

La novità che giunge dalle passerelle, questa volta è in fatto di scarpe. 

Per chi ancora non lo sapesse, gli stilisti rispolverano le "Brothel Creepers" dei nostalgici anni '50.

Nate nel periodo post-bellico, furono indossate per la prima volta dai soldati in Nord Africa che necessitavano di stivali con una spessa suola in gomma "seghettata" per far fronte a difficili condizioni climatiche e ambientali.

Di ritorno dalla grande guerra, gli ex militanti continuarono a indossare questo tipo di calzature dalla "creep-sole", anche nei locali notturni di Londra, facendole conoscere al mondo come "Brothel Creeper".

Nei successivi anni 50, primi a far di loro un "must-have" furono i Teddy Boys, moderni dandy, che le accompagnavano a pantaloni a tubo, giacche con drappi, cravatte, e capi da un vivo blu elettrico. 

Tuttavia, fu negli anni '70 che le Creeper raggiunsero il successo, grazie a Malcolm McLauren, il quale le distribuiva nel suo negozio "Let it Rock" in Kings Road. Oltre ai Ted, abituali consumatori, le creeper arrivarono anche a una clientela più vasta, grazie alla collaborazione con Vivienne Westwood, che rese il negozio più "rock-oriented". 

Negli anni, questa scarpa dalla suola particolare fu adottata da varie sottoculture della scena underground come Ska, Visual Key, Punk e altri, per poi calzare ai piedi di modelle e modelli delle case di moda più prestigiose. 

Che sia solo un fenomeno passeggero o una moda fatta per le più audaci, sta di fatto che sempre più spesso sentiremo parlare di creeper, che sia forse giunto il momento di comprarne un paio? 

They found their beginnings in the years following World War II, as soldiers based in the deserts in North Africa wore suede boots with hardwearing crepe soles because of the climate and environment. Having left the army, many of these ex-soldiers found their way to the nightspots of London wearing the same crepe-soled shoes and these became known as Brothel Creepers.

In the late 1950s, these shoes were taken up by the Teddy Boys along with drainpipe trousers, draped jackets, bolo ties, and velvet or electric blue clothes.

The brothel creeper regained popularity in the early 1970s when Malcolm McLaren sold them from his Let it Rock shop in London's Kings Road. Teddy Boys were the obvious customers, but the brothel creeper still proved to be popular among regular customers when McLaren and his partner Vivienne Westwood changed the shop to more rocker-oriented fashion.

The shoe has since been adopted by subcultures such as ska, punk, Visual key and others..and now the most famous stylists use them in their collections.

"It shoes" or not, maybe it's time to buy a new pair of creepy shoes!
